Cold/Flu Protocol

Cold & Flu Protocol

Cold_fluIt seems quite early in the season for me to be seeing so much contageous illness. The weather is still intermittenly warm in the Bay Area and although we have gotten some uncharacteristically early rain the weather in between the rain is still ranging from between the mid 70’s to mid 80’s.

That having been said, I’m getting  a lot of reports of my patients getting sick early this season with upper respiratory infections, pneumonias and the common cold.  Up at UC Berkeley there has been a Mumps outbreak which is quite unusual, as many as 44 college students up there have contracted the painful and debilitating virus.  I remember when I caught the mumps when I was a kid and to this day, I can’t think of any infection that was as painful and miserable as having the mumps.

Since there was so much cause for concern locally for infections of viruses and bacteria I thought I would take the time to review some good ideas to keep you healthy for the winter…or at the very least to minimize the time you are sick.  Here are my major pointers:

1) Just like you mom always reminded you when you were five to wash your hands. This really applies now. Wash your hands after going to the bathroom, blowing your nose, coughing and regularly throughout the day.

2) Get plenty of rest. If your immune system is stressed you are much more prone to getting a cold or flu. Do some deep breathing exercises during the day to reduce stress and get good sleep at night.

3) Cut the sugar or high fructose corn syrup. Avoid sodas and juices during this time. The high sugar content suppresses your natural immunity and can continue to do so for up to 8 hours.

4) Avoid alcohol and coffee to give your immune system a boost and reduce the stress on your body. Green tea, water and herbal teas can help tremendously.

Natural Cold/Flu Support and Prevention
Staying one step ahead for your kids…

Here is my cold/flu prevention protocol that I have given most parents of the kids I treat. I suggest that you keep these things in your medicine cabinet since most kids get sick in the middle of the night.

Note: this page is NOT intended to diagnose, mitigate, prevent, treat or cure the H1N1, colds or Flu Virus in people. Only your doctor can diagnose and treat H1N1 flu, influenza or any other cold or flu.

1) Liquid bioflavinoids: 1 tsp 3 times daily

2) Elderberry syrup: 1 tsp 3 times daily This has recent evidence that elderberry extract binds directly to H1N1 flu strain.

3) Unda #2, 5, 15: 5 drops, 6 times daily (for immune and fever)

4) Liquid Life: 1 ounce per day, up to 3 if you are very sick. Contains the equivalent of 1/2 pound of elderberries in every ounce plus potent antioxidants and immune supporters.

5) Engystol: 1 tablet dissolved under tongue or chewed, 3 times daily. 1 tablet per day for 1 week, alternating weeks for prevention.

6) Gripp-Heel: 1 tablet dissolved under tongue or chewed, 3 times daily, only use for colds or flus while sick, do not use for prevention.

Do this for the days your child is sick and don’t forget to give him/her Engystol once a day for a week, alternate weeks to reduce the risk of catching the colds or flus. This works at least as well as a flu shot and probably better since it helps the immune system stay healthy on many different levels without the additional mercury or squalene added as they do in the vaccine.

Staying one step ahead for yourself…

For adults, I recommend the following for keeping yourself healthy during cold/flu concerns.

1) Camu Camu rainforest herb: 3 capsules, 3 times daily while sick, this works the best if you start taking it if you feel any hint of a cold/flu.

2) EHB: 3 capsules, 3 times daily while sick up to 2-3 days past cold/flu symptoms.

3) Unda #2, 5, 15: 5 drops, 6 times daily (for immune system and fever)

2) Echatin Plus: 3 capsules, 3 times daily. Speak to your doctor if you have problems with mushrooms or funguses.

4) Liquid Life: 1 ounce per day, up to 3 if you are very sick. Contains the equivalent of 1/2 pound of elderberries in every ounce plus potent antioxidants and immune supporters.

5) Upper respiratory Formula: 2 droppersful every 2 hours if you have a bronchitis, cough or pneumonia.

6) Engystol: 1 tablet dissolved under tongue or chewed, 3 times daily. 1 tablet per day for 1 week, alternating weeks for prevention.

7) Gripp-Heel: 1 tablet dissolved under tongue or chewed, 3 times daily, only use for colds or flus while sick, do not use for prevention.

Normally, I only recommend Engystol between October and April but this year might be different because of the early outbreaks of serious infections.
